AP Art Studio Drawing & 2-D
Brief Description of Course
The AP Studio Art course is designed for the highly motivated and will be taught as a college level class. Students understand that work outside of class will be required along with some required reading assignments. Through teacher lead instruction, the class will focus on the production of quality art pieces, which show a variety of concepts and approaches. The course will emphasize that the process of making art is ongoing and requires informed and critical decision-making. The course will evolve into a more independent study allowing each student to develop a body of work with a strong underlying visual theme. During the course, students will develop a mastery in concept, composition and execution. Students will investigate all three sections of the AP Portfolio: Quality, Breadth, and Concentration.
The Portfolio
There is no written exam for AP Art. The year will be spent building a portfolio of work consisting of 24 pieces that will be submitted to the College Board for evaluation - this is your exam.
- The Breadth section of the Portfolio comprises of 12 pieces of artwork that show a variety of skills.
- The Concentration section of the Portfolio is 12 pieces of artwork that demonstrate the evolution of one visual idea or theme.
- The last section of the Portfolio is Quality. You will select 5 pieces of artwork that demonstrate mastery of skills to include in the portfolio.
